ACC News | ACC Planning SME’s Meet with FAA in Alexandria, VA to Discuss Runway Length Requirements

Members of the ACC Planning & Environmental Committee met with Kent Duffy and Mike Hines from the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Planning and Environmental Division this week to discuss upcoming changes to the FAA Advisory Circular (AC) on Runway Length Requirements. The meeting brought together 14 Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from within the Planning & Environmental Committee, FAA, and ACC staff. The workshop was a robust two-way dialog about the changes to the AC and the analysis process, with the FAA also providing a demo of the Runway Length Statistical Evaluation Tool (RLSET). The agency described planned enhancements to the Small Aircraft Runway Length Analysis Tool (SARLAT), both of which will be made available by the FAA to support future runway length requirements analysis. The updated AC is projected to be published in 2024. The Committee is planning for continued dialog with the FAA on this topic and other important planning and environmental-related topics.
