2025 AAAE/ACC Airport Planning, Design, and Construction Symposium – Call for Topics

Call for Symposium Topics and Moderators

ACC and AAAE have opened submissions for potential plenary and workshop topics for the 2025 Airport Planning, Design, and Construction Symposium, which will take place on March 12 -14 in San Antonio, Texas. Topics will be accepted through the survey until July 31, 2024, by 5:00 p.m. EST.

The 2025 Symposium will feature two Plenary Sessions and Concurrent Workshops including five technical tracks: Planning; Terminal/Landside; Engineering/Airside; Project Management/Construction Management; and an Innovation Track. This year we are looking for topics that feature projects at international airports as well, for what will become an international focus session within each track.

Selection Process

The solicitation for topics for the AAAE/ACC Airport Planning, Design, and Construction Symposium provides everyone who submits a proposal the same opportunity and chance for participation in the program.

Every year, the Call for Topics generates over 150 entries. With room for just 25 sessions on the program, it takes a lot of time and commitment to decide on final topics from what is typically a very robust set of proposals.

The Symposium Planning Committee is very deliberate in the process of identifying, selecting, and confirming moderators and speakers. An extensive process is used to consider and select speakers, consider ways to increase inclusion and diversity among panels, ensure balance in companies/airports represented, seek different perspectives from industry, airports, suppliers, and stakeholders in panels, etc. The selection of a topic does not necessarily ensure that the submitter will receive a speaking opportunity.

If you have any questions, please contact Sylvia Palmer, ACC VP, Operations & Regulatory Affairs.

Step 1: Submit Your Topic

Any aviation professional interested can submit their topic for consideration through this link which will take them to a survey. The deadline for topic submission is 5:00 p.m. EST on July 31, 2024. You can submit multiple topic suggestions by filling out separate surveys.

Step 2: Review Process

The results of the survey will be reviewed by the 2025 Symposium Planning Committee. Each Track Host will review the topics submitted for their track and begin the process of selecting topics that will be brought forward for further discussion.

The Symposium Planning Committee convenes at the end of August, and during this meeting, the Planning Committee will make a fair and impartial assessment of all the topics brought forth by the Track Hosts.  A decision will be made to move forward with five topics for each track, considering the agreed-on selection criteria.

The committee is looking for novel, innovative, and compelling technical topics that will inspire, educate, and challenge the wide range of aviation industry participants who attend the AAAE/ACC Symposium. We fully count on the industry subject matter expertise of the Track Hosts, as well as that of the Symposium Chair, Vice Chair, and Program Managers to pull off this selection process, and having well-described and fully constructed topic entries to choose from eases the process.

Step 3: Topic Confirmation

Topics selected by the committee will be announced at the end of August.
