  • 39th ACC Annual Conference a Big Success

    ACC hosted their 39th Annual Conference & Exposition at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego, California last week. The event boasted over 200 attendees, all of whom enjoyed panel sessions on various topics such as industry disruption, risk management, airport finance, Building Information Model (BIM) and more. Interactive workshops and networking were held over the course of the week, as well as other off-site activities including community service at the local food bank. ACC would like to thank all of the sponsors, exhibitors, and program coordinators for their support and hardwork during the event. A special thank you to the 2017 ACC Annual Conference Committee Chair, Nick Ryan, Arora Engineers, for pulling together a successful conference. We look forward to seeing everyone in Bermuda next year from November 12 - 14, 2018! 

  • 2017 ACC Member Recognition Awardees

    ACC recognized member companies who reached a new membership milestone in the ACC Member Recognition Program at the 39th ACC Annual Conference & Exposition last week in San Diego. This program recognizes loyal and dedicated member companies that have been a part of the organization for 10, 20, and 30 years. Special recognition was given to the following companies that achieves a 30 year year membership milestone: Bechtel Corporation; Crawford, Murphy & Tilly, Inc.; Gensler; Leo A Daly; Mead & Hunt; and Walker Consultants. Companies that have reached a new milestone are listed on the website, ACC's Annual Report, and the printed ACC Membership Directory. ACC congratulates all member firms that have reached a new milestone in 2017! 

  • ACC Online Training Program: It's a Matter of Ethics

    The ACC Institute presents the online training program It's a Matter of Ethics on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 1:00 - 2:30 PM. this interactive online training program lead by Nicole Mangino, Vice President and Director of Field Operations, XL Catlin, will provide and overview of 10 categories of ethics complaints and issues faced by design professionals, planners and engineers. Learn about the conflict of interest, advertising, employment, expert witness and public safety ethical code of conduct issues and the steps to making the right decision.  Attendees should come prepared to participate, engage, and share their perspectives and experiences that may have "challenged" their ethical code of conduct.

  • Mary Ellen Eagan Named 2018 ACC Board of Directors Chair

    Eagan assumed the position of 2018 ACC Board of Directors Chair at the ACC membership meeting held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, during the 39th ACC Annual Conference and Exposition in San Diego, California. while serving on the ACC board for six years and holding other leadership capacities with the organization, Eagan was also the the Chair of the Transportation Research Board's Aviation Group and involved with Airports Council International, serving as co-chair of the Noise Working Group and a business partner to the ACI World Environment Standing Committee.

    The ACC Young Professionals Forum Hosted a Regional Meet-Up in Washington, D.C. on October 25, 2017.  Approximately 15 young professionals from various disciplines got together at the Heavy Seas Ale House in Arlington, VA to network and discuss new trends in aviation. A big thank you to our organizer, Brendan Hesselbein, and to our sponsor, Whiting-Turner, for a successful event.  We look forward to the next Regional Meet-Up in Tampa, Florida.

  • Successful 2017 ACC Airfield Pavement Design, Evaluation & Analysis Workshop Yielded High Attendance

    ACC hosted the 2017 Airfield Pavement Design, Evaluation & Analysis Workshop from October 4-6 in Kansas City, MO.  Registrations sold out prior to the workshop, setting the basis for a very successful event.  Participants not only learned the basics on topics such as airfield pavement types, pavement performance, and aircraft traffic, but many of the presentations featured recent updates to FAA guidance.  A key benefit of this course is the five workshops that attendees run through, which allows them the opportunity to work real-world problems under the guidance of the instructors.  Our appreciation goes out to our course instructors with both Applied Pavement Technologies, Inc. and the FAA!  Stay tuned for information about the east coast ACC Airfield Pavement Design, Evaluation & Analysis Workshop early next year! 

  • ACC Young Professionals Forum Holds #LAXontheMoveWebinar

    Over 50 attendees tuned into the ACC Young Professionals Forum webinar on October 3, 2017, to learn about the largest terminal re-shuffle in U.S. history.  The #LAXontheMove webinar provided a high-level look inside airport operations during the move, the airline's perspective, and technologies and methods utilized to run the project smoothly.  The ACC Young Professionals Forum would like to thank Grant Gray, Faith Group; Katia Mayhew, Delta Airlines; Viji Prasad, LAWA; and David Arredondo, LAWA, for their participation as panelists.  The YP Forum would also like to commend Kaly Queiroz for an excellent job organizing the webinar.  If you are interested in joining the YP Forum or participating in YP leadership, please contact Pinar Maurice at pinarm@acconline.org.

  • Help Support Hurricane Relief Efforts

    Major hurricanes over the past few weeks have had catastrophic impacts on communities and families in Texas, parts of Florida, and Puerto Rico.  We are asking our members to consider providing a contribution to support the relief efforts for those impacted in these areas.  Please consider donating to our fellow citizens and those in the airport community impacted by the storms by visiting the AAAE/ACI-NA Hurricane Relief Fund webpage.   • ACC Participates in Future Travel Experience Global Conference

    ACC had a prominent role at the Future Travel Experience (FTE) Conference in Las Vegas last week.  ACC was a sponsoring partner of the event, which featured a number of sessions exploring new technologies and their impact on the future of travel.  ACC President T.J. Schulz provided opening remarks on the second day and discussed trends in improving security checkpoints.  Security was also a key focus during a co-creation lab that Schulz and AAAE's Chris Runde facilitated on the last day.  ACC's Director of Marketing, Membership and Meeting Services, Colleen Flood, hosted the ACC booth on the exhibit floor and interfaced with numerous members and other aviation experts.

  • ACC Represented Coast to Coast!

    It was a busy week for ACC as staff participated in high-level airport development events across the country. ACC President T.J. Schulz moderated a panel discussion on procurement practices at the Airports P3 Summit in San Diego. ACC Board Chair Roddy Boggus with Suffolk participated in the P3 procurement panel and joined Schulz and Matt Griffin in welcoming a number of guests at the ACC booth. Over 900 delegates attended the conference. In Miami, Colleen Flood and Daniel Jagdmann joined hundreds of colleagues at the Florida Airports Council Annual Conference, where they met up with a number of ACC members and other industry officials. 

  • ACC and TSA Host Record-Setting Security Capabilities Workshop

    A record-setting number of 250 participants joined the Airport Consultants Council (ACC) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for the ninth annual Security Capabilities Workshop last week in Washington, D.C. Industry experts and representatives from the TSA and Department of Homeland Security shared upcoming initiatives, global security trends, and insight into the TSA’s recent reorganization and future security initiatives. Attendees also had the opportunity to engage face-to-face with the TSA in smaller, interactive roundtable sessions. 

    ACC would like to extend a special thank you to Michael Saunders of General Dynamics Missions Systems, ACC Security Committee Chair and Robin Baughman, VTC, ACC Security Committee Vice Chair, for their hard work in organizing the event.   • ACC Young Professionals Meet in Downtown Chicago for Regional Meet-Up

    The ACC Young Professionals Forum held the most recent Regional Meet-Up in Downtown Chicago on July 18, 2017.  The event, organized by Sarah Contreras, Chris Groh, Adam Hardy and Connor Maldonato, hosted over 30 participants interested in networking and learning from their airport development peers.  The ACC YPs would like to extend a thank you to Kimley-Horn and Landrum & Brown for sponsoring the Chicago Meet-Up. The next ACC YP Forum Regional Meet-Up will be held in the San Francisco Bay Area on August 3, 2017.  

  • ACC Young Professionals Forum Hosts Second Regional Meet-Up in Washington, D.C.

    The ACC YP Forum held their second Regional Meet-Up in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area in conjunction with the 2017 ACC Airports Technical Workshop.  Over 30 attendees participated, including a number of mentors and associates that engaged and networked with the YPs.  An overall success, the YP Forum looks forward to holding Regional Meet-Ups across the nation on a consistent basis.  The next event will be located in Chicago on July 18, 2017.  A special thank you to YP Forum Lead Sri Kumar and Connico, Inc. for planning and hosting the event. 

  • FAA and Industry Share Best Practices at the 2017 ACC Airports Technical Workshop

    Up to 20 FAA officials joined ACC members at the 2017 Airports Technical Workshop last week in Arlington, Virginia.   The event was well-attended across two days, and included a number of technical sessions that featured FAA decision makers and industry subject matter experts.  Participants engaged in roundtable discussions on new and pending Advisory Circulars, guidelines, regulations and legislation that might affect airport planning, environmental permitting and engineering.  Thank you to our sponsors, Mead & Hunt, HMMH, and Airport Improvement for assisting ACC to throw a successful workshop.  We look forward to next year!

  • ACC Hosts Successful Construction Summit

    ACC, the Airports Council International – North America and the Associated General Contractors of America wrapped up the third annual Airport Construction Strategy Summit last week in Los Angeles, CA. The ongoing work at LAX was prominently discussed given the location of the event, along with other airport projects and best practices across the country. Sessions discussed DBE/MBE/WBE involvement, project leadership, and the ongoing infrastructure debate taking place in Washington, D.C. Airport sponsors, consultants, and contractors explored their collective roles in the successful outcome of large projects. The open discussion the event provides was welcome, and the event organizers are planning on holding this event again next year in the late spring.

  • ACC Young Professionals Forum Holds First Regional Meet-Up in the Greater L.A. Area

    The ACC Young Professionals Forum held their first regional meet-up last week, thanks to the sponsorship of HNTB. Almost 20 members in the greater Los Angeles area gathered to network. A goal this year of the YP Forum leadership is to grow these types of events around the country and offer members an opportunity to meet peers in their region. The next event will be held later in June as part of the ACC Airports Technical Workshop on June 21-22 in Arlington, VA. Special thanks to Jennie Santoro and HNTB for planning and hosting the event. 

  • ACC Discusses Partnering on Airport Projects

    ACC President T.J. Schulz moderated a panel discussion of industry experts that explored the use of facilitated partnering for airport projects.  The session was held on May 19 at the International Partnering Institute (IPI) Collaboration 2017 Conference in San Francisco, and included panelists Roddy Boggus, Executive Vice President of Aviation, Suffolk, and ACC Board Chair; Duane Boreham, Vice President, Aviation Group, Q&D Construction; Kevin Bumen, Director of Airports, San Luis Obispo County; and Judy Ross, Deputy Director, Planning & Development, Mineta San Jose International Airport.  The panelists discussed the benefits of using facilitated partnering for airport projects, how to gain support and integrate partnering into projects, and future prospects for partnering in aviation.
